There’s a famous quote from the great Lutheran pastor and anti-Nazi dissident Dietrich Bonhoeffer “When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and dieâ€.
In a way that seems a bit shocking and extreme, and yet if you look at the words of Jesus he does say a lot about the cost of being a follower of his. And also in this country many people can point to members of their own families who have died for their faith, many through sickness while on the missions in far-flung lands.
Prudence Bell is from Wales, and she was aware that her own great-grandparents had died while working as missionaries in China. She decided to research their story, and was surprised to discover the lasting legacy of their sacrifice.
The resulting book is called ‘Lives from a Black Tin Box’
She spoke to Wendy about her book project.
